The Carpenter in my painting was a talented old chap called Charlie Pickup, he was a great friend of my Father-in-law, as they used to work together in what was the old Fremlins Brewery in Maidstone, Kent. Charlie was a smashing old chap and could pretty well turn his hands to anything (as most crafts people seem to be able to do). He always had a story or two to go along with what he was doing at the time, so that made it all the more pleasurable to know him and of course paint him. I have true respect for anyone who achieves a complete understanding of their craft, there are so many talented people out there.
The "Carpenter" original was approximately the size it appears here and was again painted in watercolour and bodycolour (gouache), on to Saunders Waterford Watercolour paper (300gsm) hot pressed, then post painting, all the graphic parts were added like the border, text and wood textures.
