"Lark Descending" is a homage to a great post-Impressionist artist, Vincent van Gogh. His original work " Wheatfield with a Lark" shows just the sheer brilliance of the artist in how he was able to capture with a minimum of pictorial components 'the moment' with the lark suspended almost motionless in the breeze above the wheatfield.
My second version is again painted with an Impressionist feel, it enables me to try to understand by creating a pastiche, what problems he might have encountered originally. He was not averse himself to the thought of imitation, he quite often copied the works of Jean-François Millet for exactly that reason. On occasions when visiting galleries you will notice artists trying to understand a certain painters' methods by painting their works.
